FriThe sixth edition of the ≠ (not equal) series presents industrial pioneers Godflesh in their first appearance in Berlin since 1999, alongside a new generation of young artists who seamlessly further and develop the legendary British sound in new ways.
Performing for the first time in Germany is New York noise artist Pharmakon (Margaret Chardiet), whose much-acclaimed debut registers somewhere between the uncompromising power electronics of Throbbing Gristle and the vocal pathos of Lisa Gerrard.
These Hidden Hands, a collaboration from techno producer and DJ Tommy Four Seven and sound designer Alain of One Million Mangos Studio in Berlin, make their world premier with an alloy of abstract IDM and experimental dancefloor sounds, while Italian artist Shapednoise exemplifies his own moniker with waves of white noise, offset by ritualistic rhythms, that seethe and swell into hypnotic crescendos. Both Shapednoise and These Hidden Hands perform as part of CTM Festival’s ongoing Berlin Current initiative, presenting future-oriented, experimental sound from rising Berlin-based artists, with support from the Musicboard Berlin.
Also making her inaugural Berghain appearance is Hamburg native and resident DJ at the infamous Golden Pudel club, Helena Hauff, whose strident, acid-saturated sound released on labels such as PAN has merited her recent critical repute as Artist of the Day. She will be supported by ≠ (not equal) resident DJ, Opium Hum.
Berlin Current is a collaborative initiative from CTM Festival, Berghain, Boiler Room Berlin, BLN.FM, De-Bug, and ICAS. Sponsored by the Musicboard Berlin.
