SatThe third floor at YAAM will be the site of headier, if also crowd-pleasing, acts and one of the hotbeds of CTM's Berlin Current initiative as well as a collaboration with Unsound.
Three Polish artists associated with the Skoczów-based Mik.Musik! initiative (“aint no label, aint no collective, just some expression, action, and freedom”) will perform over the course of the evening. RSS B0ys, two nameless artists known for performing in elaborate veils, will present a rowdy shamanistic techno project combining analogue hardware with e-drums. Ignited by a meeting in Africa and inspired by the transformative potential of the drum circle, the project celebrates the archaic roots of techno by paying tribute to tribal musical traditions that are at once intricate and gut-level, provocative and hypnotizing. Sound artist and experimental musician Pawel Kulczynski aka Wilhelm Bras, equally at home building instruments, developing video installations, and producing saturated, glitchy, and atmospheric invitations to dance, will use the performance to investigate “uncertainty, random occurrences, laziness, boredom, and psychedelia” (in his own words). Wojciech Kucharczyk, the founder of the aforementioned Mik Musik.!. community, has recently begun pursuing raw, noisy, mechanized dance music via hardware under his real name after over a decade of artistic experiments.
Canadian autodidact and multimedia artist Jesse Osborne-Lanthier, one of many performers brought to the YAAM evening by Berlin Current will oscillate between the beat-driven and the more widely immersive, delivering his mixture of dub-infused techno and crackling static noise. Fellow Berlin resident Ketev assembles post-techno creations using reel-to-reel tape loops; heavy bass does all it can to drag sludgy, haunted textures behind it. Lastly, Olle Holmberg, the man behind Moon Wheel, the hazier, dubbier project that will enhance a night at Berghain earlier in the week, presents a more rhythmically potent approach this time around.
Ketev and RSS B0ys are presented within SHAPE, a new 3-year initiative co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, which unites 16 likeminded organisations in supporting emerging experimental sound-based artists in Europe .
Jesse Osborne-Lanthier[CA/DE]
Jesse Osborne-Lanthier is a conceptual electronic musician and visual artist focused on inciting alternative cognitive responses via mixed sonic material. Also working solo as Noir, Lanthier’s collaborative aliases include Femminielli Noir with Bernardino Femminielli and The H with Francesco De Gallo.
Wilhelm Bras[PL]
Wilhelm Bras is the techno-oriented alias of Polish experimentalist and DIY synthesizer zealot Pawel Kulczyński, who also produces raw, mechanized dance music under his own name and moonlights as the guerilla sound-installation artist Tropajn.
Olle Holmberg[SE/DE]
Olle Holmberg is a Swedish electronic musician and photographer residing in Berlin. Perhaps better known for his psychedelic experimental tones under the pseudonym of Moon Wheel, productions under his own name take a more beat-oriented direction, heading into raw analogue techno territory.
Ketev[INT]
Ketev is a project by Yair Elazar Glotman, a musician and sound artist focusing on experimental electroacoustic composition, sound installations, and sculptures.
RSS B0ys[PL]
A shamanistic techno project inspired by the transformative potential of West African drum circles, the RSS B0ys are two veiled and nameless Polish artists that combe analogue hardware with e-drums to celebrate the archaic roots of techno through tribal musical traditions. Intricate and trance-inducing, their chaotic orchestra offers as much resolve as it does mystery.
Kucharczyk[PL]
Wojciech Kucharczyk is the founder of the experimental Polish Mik Musik.!. label and collective. Having worked in music and the arts for over 10 years, Kucharczyk has produced under the percussive congo indie project The Complainer, sometimes plays as the band retro*sex*galaxy, and recently started producing noisy hardware dance-music, under his own name, Kucharczyk.
