Two sharply innovative and dexterous figures straddling the visual art and music worlds reveal technology's role in enhancing the affective potential of sound.

With "PC868," TeZ continues a targeting of our perception’s sensitivities and peculiarities. This experimental performance is aimed at producing an audiovisual feed / stimulus that, through the use of certain aural and visual frequencies, trick the brain into hearing sounds and seeing sights that are not there as it adapts to and begins to resonate with the stimulus’ wavelengths. The work combines (in real-time) a flickering video displaying abstract lights and colour gradients with binaural beats distributed via a quadraphonic surround system.

Shifting between art exhibitions and musical performance, TCF's work uses complex algorhythmic strategies to determine highly coded, cryptographic pieces enriched through references to visual, sonic, built, and written concepts. Its hyper-modernness and intimate relationship with code doesn't necessarily exclude an affective reach;  Holdhus's work is expressive as its compositional impetuses are labyrinthine. His 2014 release on Liberation Technologies, E4 15 C4 71 97 F7 8E 81 1F EE B7 86 22 88 30 6E C4 13 7F D4 EC 3D ED 8B, was met with remarkable acclaim and lauded for its "incisive balance of wry humour and emotional pathos." ARTISTS

TeZ[NL/IT]

Maurizio Martinucci is an Italian interdisciplinary artist and researcher currently based in Amsterdam. He uses light, sound spatialisation, and binaural beats as a means to perform and explore perceptual effects in the relationship between audio, sight, and space. TeZ is also the founder of the Amsterdam’s Optofonica platform for immersive art-science.

TCF[NO/DE]

TCF is the moniker of Norwegian contemporary artist and musician Lars Holdhus. His work explores themes of code, cryptography and musical composition through the use of visual, sonic, built and written concepts. Holdhus creates a world that draws references from musique concrete, hardstyle, hardcore, poetry, and digital artifacts. His practice shifts between art exhibitions and performing music pieces.
