SatTo varying degrees, Rashad Becker, Thomas Ankersmit, and Sven-Ake Johansson utilise improvisation, microtones (the spaces between the traditional Western 12-note scale), and outer-bounds instrumentation, music styles, and technologies to put forward confrontational new breeds of sound. Without being able to defer to traditional cornerstones of music, such as rhythm, harmony, or melody, Dis Entangle challenges listeners to understand sound through their own immediate, embodied experience of it – from the acute syntax of Becker’s imagined cultural body, to Ankersmit’s exploration of rare synthesizers, alto saxophone’s timbral extremes and electronic hives of micro-sound, and the torrential percussion of pioneering free jazz improviser Sven-Ake Johansson.
