FriThe MusicMakers Hacklab, conceived in collaboration with Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music, will be an open, collaborative environment in which participants can learn about new technologies and get their hands on making their own musical inventions.
12:00 Tim Exile
Custom creations for live performance. A tour of the London-based artist's uncommon live rig.
Tim Exile will present his self-programmed Reaktor live looping setup (source of both The Finger and The Mouth) in technical detail. The patch will be shared for participants to hack and/or map to their own interface using OSC. Tim and co-developer Ash Dorey will be on hand to help out with technical questions.

Miles Whittaker of Demdike Stare presents an inside look at how he works with production and custom instruments in Ableton Live. We join him on the eve of the world premiere audiovisual performance by the Demdike Stare debuting at Haus der Kulturen der Welt for CTM and transmediale 2013.

Indeterminism Machines, for the first time in the world.
Capping off a week of invention and experimentation, the hacklab's diverse participants will show the fruit of their labour in a series of demo/presentations and performances.
Tim Exile[UK]
Tim Exile (or Exile) is the recording alias of Tim Shaw, a producer and performer of electronic music spanning drum and bass, IDM, breakcore and gabber. A Classically-trained violinist, Tim has produced ground-breaking Reaktor instruments “The Mouth” and “The Finger”. He has collaborated with Imogen Heap and, in 2012, was part of the Mostly Robot superband with Jamie Lidell, DJ Shiftee, Mr. Jimmy, and Jeremy Ellis.
Demdike Stare[UK]
The collaborative project of Modern Love’s Miles Whittaker (MLZ, Pendle Coven, Daughter of the Industrial Revolution) and the professional record collector Sean Canty is named after a 17th century witch and delves deeply into horror, occult, and 80s industrial aesthetics.
Derek Holzer[US/DE]
Derek Holzer is an American instrument builder and sound artist based in Berlin, whose current interests include DIY analogue electronics, field recording, media archaeology and the meeting points of electroacoustic, noise, improv and extreme music.
