Tue[On Selfhood] is a perpetually evolving A/V performance—each instance of it is site-specific. Providing a glimpse into the process of the individual subject’s scattering, the piece considers how such processes are caused by multiple factors such as: intelligent user interfaces that constantly quantify and predict behaviours; the breaking down of human and technological bodies into chemical components; Buddhist cosmology; quantum theory; and the platform capitalist exploitation of affect. These processes turn the self into an open field in a constant process of becoming.
Through a series of fragments, [On Selfhood] uses voice and its multiplicity to re-enact (dis)embodied Artificial Intelligence, probing its portrayal as female: from the femme fatale android in sci-fi narratives to an obedient voice for intelligent personal assistants.
Voice interface: MBJ Wetware*
Music and sound design: J.G. Biberkopf
* The voice interface MBJ Wetware is trained to simulate Bozinovska Jones' voice via blackboxed AI. An additional intelligence layer coproduces and outputs content with a search engine.
Marija Bozinovska Jones aka MBJ Wetware[MK/UK]
Marija Bozinovska Jones explores links between social, computational, and organic architectures. Her work revolves around technocapitalist amplification and through her proxy MBJ Wetware, often probes selfhood: from subatomic level to multitude networked presence on planetary scale and beyond. Unpacking cryptic ways of forging subjectivity, she contemplates a myriad of behaviours in biological and other complex systems.
