Thomas Wagensommerer is a media artist, theoretician, and musician working in visual and audio experimentation. He is also the lecturer for Experimental Media at the University of Applied Sciences St. Poelten, does light design for performances, and is a member of the What if? arts project about identity in art, funded by the Austrian Science Fund.
Wagensommer uses delicate generative systems to design visuals that coincide with his experimental granular sounds. His educational background includes Studies of Digital Mediatechnology at the University of Applied Sciences St. Poelten, Philosophy at the University Vienna, and Transdiciplinary Art (TransArts) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He is the co-founder of left field projects TE -R (with Louise Linsenbolz), null95 (with Jorge Sanchez-Chiong), and bad weather report (with Uli Kuehn).
His project Morpheme with Electric Indigo, derives from a 9-second recording of Sadie Plant’s quote "To let noise into the system is a kind of fine art in both cybernetic terms and in terms of making music, too.”. In the project, Wagensommer reinterprets the text on a graphical level.
