Chris Anderton is Associate Professor of Cultural Economy at Solent University, Southampton, UK. He is the author of Music Festivals in the UK. Beyond the Carnivalesque (Routledge, 2019), co-author of Understanding the Music Industries (Sage, 2013), and has published and presented internationally on music festivals, the music industry, and music history.
Current projects include a co-authored book about music management and marketing, an edited collection about music history, and a further edited collection about the production, mediation, and consumption of live music. He also manages Solent University’s in-house music organisation solentmusic and was co-executive producer of the annual SMILE Festival for ten years. The latter has now transformed into SO: Music City – a city centre-based music and music industry event that features live performances, workshops, guest speaker events, and a number of research projects.
