FriCTM returns again to MONOM, Berlin’s Center for Spatial Sound to present a new series of works in 4DSOUND.
Drew McDowall, a key force behind legendary bands Coil and Psychic TV, will play on the formidable spatial soundsystem following a stellar appearance at CTM 2018. His impact on Coil’s sound was immediate and significant – the releases transformed from their previous avant-pop signature to a more complex and methodic electronic imprint accompanied by even more abstruse subject matter and abstract formulations. He was instrumental in the creation of Time Machines, one of the most influential drone works of the last 20 years. McDowall’s signature ambient ebb and flow engages with a contemporary world that emerges from the disintegration of various mental, physical, and emotional terrain. Recently, he released The Third Helix on Dais Records, a record that unravels the DNA of hallucination.
4DSOUND software developer Casimir Geelhoed boasts extensive experience with spatial sound. His piece explores anxiety, confusion, overstimulation, and struggle, offering a tale of endurance and hope through persistence. Built on a language of distorted realities, surreal shifts in distance and dimensions, abrasive sound design and fragilely drifting elements of melancholic reflection, it is an abstract recollection and reliving of personal experience. With his hyperreal and metaphorical representation of tension and fragility, Geelhoed ultimately aims to make full use of the expressive, sound-theatrical abilities that the 4DSOUND system has to offer.
Casimir Geelhoed is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
