Linn da Quebrada in conversation with Stefanie Alisch

Linn da Quebrada is a transsexual singer, composer, and multimedia artist known for appropriating the often violent funk carioca genre to passionately rebut transphobia and other political violences. Against the backdrop of the rapid rise to power of Brazil’s far-right, she offers a voice to the vulnerable and disempowered.

Released in 2017, Linn’s first full-length album, Pajubá, (“gossip,” “news”), is named after the Brazilian cryptolect that blends words and expressions from West African languages into Portuguese, and that is used by the Brazilian queer community among other. With incisive, dexterous, and often humorous lyrical power, she cuts through issues such as violence, poverty, body politics, sex, desire, and the daily struggles of Brazil’s trans-women.

At CTM 2019, Linn da Quebrada performs twice at HAU1 with a crew of DJs, vocalists, and dancers, and also appears for a special DJ set at SchwuZ. In the midst of these performances, she meets up with Stefanie Alisch to speak about her life and artistic work.

The talk will also introduce Bixa Travesty, the 2018 multi award-winning documentary about her trajectory, which will be screened directly afterwards.
