20:10 Linn da Quebrada – "Pajubá"

CTM 2019’s Opening Concert Reprise will unite artists exploring different traditions and cultures.

This evening reprises Linn da Quebrada’s headline performance of the CTM 2019 Opening Concert. She will perform a live rendition of her audio-visual album, Pajubá. Considered to be Brazil’s answer to Lemonade, Pajubá takes its name from a cant language often used by the Brazilian queer community. Quebrada is known for making music that appropriates the often violent funk carioca genre to passionately rebut transphobia and other political violences, delivering “paeans to her country’s femmes and queers.” (Remezcla) She vociferously fights for space for those not often granted it, and was described by Mykki Blanco as an artist who “flaunt[s] her intellect as much as her queerness.” Together with DJs Pininga and Badsista, backing vocals by Jup do Bairro, percussion by Dominque Vieira, and dancers Veronica and Slim Soledad, Linn da Quebrada fill HAU with vibrant, unapologetic femme energy.

On this second performance night, she will be joined by Bendik Giske, who is a queer artist and saxophonist utilising physicality, vulnerability, and endurance to solder together jazz and club music with mesmerising performance.

Bendisk Giske’s concert is supported by Music Norway

ARTISTS

Linn da Quebrada[BR]

Linn da Quebrada is a rapper confronting violences against the black, queer, and trans communities in her native Brazil. Her audiovisual epic Pajubá, seen as Brazil’s answer to Lemonade, will be performed live with a 10-person group for this year’s CTM Festival.

Bendik Giske[NO/DE]

Bendik Giske is a queer artist and saxophonist who utilises physicality, vulnerability, and endurance to solder together jazz and club music with mesmerising performance. Giske takes the building blocks of electronic music and plays it live – without layering or looping – to the best of his ability, allowing human vulnerabilities to emerge.
