Lecture by Holly Herndon, Mat Dryhurst and Jules LaPlace
Presented by #BeBeethoven

Holly Herndon, Mat Dryhurst and Jules LaPlace discuss their ongoing sonic experiments with neural networks. In this presentation they will describe their motivations for experimenting with the generation and processing of audio using these techniques, the potential implications of the technology and how it correlates with prior historical experiments in the field of music.

From 2018 to 2020, Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst are among the participants of the #BeBeethoven project, a fellowship programme, that provides support to twelve artistic fellows in experimenting with new ideas, technologies and in developing aesthetic innovations. #BeBeethoven has been initiated by Podium Esslingen on the upcoming occasion of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven and is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. CTM Festival is one of the six main partners of the project, together with Ensemble Resonance, Operadagen Rotterdam, Radialsystem V, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, and ZKM Karlsruhe.
