Ah! Kosmos
[TR]
Subliminal beats and shifting textures: Turkish producer and instrumentalist Ah! Kosmos describes her music as "a study of how sound bounces off walls and between bodies, as they do in outer space between planets and other heavenly bodies."
Born in Istanbul, Başak Günak earned an MA in Sound Design & Engineering before releasing her debut EP, Flesh, on the Muzik Hayvanı label in 2013. Shortly after, she was selected to take part in the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo, and her debut full-length, Bastards, arrived the following year on experimental label Denovali Records. "Each of the album's eight individual tracks shuns segregation, merging to form a rippling, organic, layered whole, underpinned with subtle vocal lines and sparse, uncluttered beats," Crack wrote. "It's murky, moody, and utterly engrossing."
Günak also works in composition and sound design for contemporary dance, theatre, and short films. Her works for and specific performances have been featured at events like Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Signal Festival in Prague, the Istanbul International Theater Festival, ARENA Theater Festival Nürnberg, and the Venice ElectroFestival. She is currently pursuing a second MA in Cultural Studies with a particular interest in sonics.
