Born in Flamez
[DE]
Shirking notions of identity, Born in Flamez subverts gender and genre with a panoply of influences somewhere in the nether regions between deconstructed pop, lofi, grime, and classical music.
Born in Flamez debuted with a single on Modeselektor’s Modeselektion Vol. 3 compilation, and has collaborated with Glass Eyes, WWWINGS, Pixelord, and Perera Elsewhere, among others. Their debut EP, Polymorphous, came out on UnReal Audio in September 2014 and was followed up with Careful you might tear the sound on Infinite Machine in 2017. The latter ventures through a range of influences, from ambient to reggaeton and onwards, in a unique amalgamation of them all.
They have appeared alongside the likes of rRoxymore, M.E.S.H., and Objekt, and have played shows at Berlin’s Yo! Sissy, Brussels’ Botanique and Hamburg’s Golden Pudel, to name a few, with live shows that are as tender as they are energetic. Featuring an e-drummer and hypnotic visuals, the shows engage in futuristic experiments. BIF's club-oriented DJ sets, for example their notorious appearance at Berlin's infamous GEGEN party, tend towards the dark side of dance, fusing UK mutations of grime and bala with melodic hook lines, noise and industrial sounds – a kaleidoscopic glimpse of possible musical futures.
In 2018, they shared Impossible Love, which considers queer love amidst the challenges of today's political climate. Born in Flamez is currently working on new project Empathy.
