She studied Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and composition at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Her work typically includes narrative or performative elements.
An ongoing project of Wellmer's has been a series of sound stories which earned her an honorary mention in digital musics from the Prix Ars Electronica in Linz in 2007. She created a series of 20 listening hats for the Institut für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum in Graz in 2008.
As a curator and programmer her interest lies in experimental and radical music created in the US and in Europe since the 1960s. Recently she has been processing the archive of Dutch electronic music pioneer and conceptual artist Dick Raaijmakers (1930–2013) and created the online database for the archive at the Institute of Sonology.
